ETIQUETTE TIP OF THE MONTH

Appreciate Chivalry

Men want to be gentlemen. One way to encourage gentlemanly behavior is to encourage his chivalrous acts. Chivalry is an influential part of a civil, pleasant society.

For men, here are a few tips:

  • Make the assumption that women like chivalry.
  • Open doors for them.
  • Pull out chairs.
  • Pay on the first date but don’t try for a goodnight kiss. When a man behaves like a gentleman, he should be rewarded with a smile or a thank you. Or maybe a second date.

For ladies, here are a few tips:

  • Be gracious in receiving these kind acts.
  • Be pleasant.
  • Be patient enough for him to do these things.
  • Always say thank you.
  • Ultimately, he is choosing to be nice to you, so enjoy the nicety!

Ladies, encourage gentlemanly behavior by making sure that nice guys finish first. If you shun the bad boys, you will discourage their numbers. Recognize a man’s considerate demeanor as a strength, and let him know that you see it as such. Be receptive to a man’s positive inclinations and it will encourage more!

PROGRAM HAPPENINGS

Fine Dining

This group of etiquette club members attended their annual dinner at an upscale restaurant to highlight the juxtaposition of formal manners with proper dining behavior. A formal dining expert took the dinner guests through each course of the meal, giving the rules of dining etiquette along with interesting facts about dining manners of yesterday that influences our table manners of today. At the end of the dinner, the girls scored an A+ in remembering the dining etiquette information that they learned in their etiquette classes.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Tea Time with Seniors

This group of club members served tea and cupcakes to residents at a Catholic senior citizen home. It was fun pouring tea for ladies who had once served the community. In addition to serving as wait staff, the girls sat and socialized with the residents, some of whom use to be nuns, and shared interesting stories with the girls. Midway through the tea, one of the talented club members sang Amazing Grace. It was a pleasant afternoon.

What Our Clients are Saying

... Dageanna feels proud every time she tells family & friends about dressing proper & baking, etc. I noticed how she wants to set the table, how she sits straight. She takes her time now when she talks, and she even puts the proper words when needed.”

It teaches you how to speak, it made me more independent, responsible, how I talk, oh, actually how I speak, how I dress, how I present myself in front of certain people, how not to look stupid in situations and to use for everyday life.

This club, the etiquette club (Ms. Whitaker) has taught me how to dress on different occasions. Whether business, formal, casual...Even when I’m at home my etiquette skills play a roll when I’m setting the table, making my tea (stirring my tea), I can go on and on. In brief this club has made a physical, and mental change in me from Day one.
